96 JG. "The 1993 Drouhin Musigny continues to blossom in a relaxed fashion, and is clearly bound to be one of the greatest recent vintages of this wine. The bouquet is deep, pure and beginning to show secondary signs of Musigny complexity, as it offers up notes of black cherries, plums, cocoa powder, blood orange, vinesmoke, minerals, herb tones and a fine base of soil. On the palate the wine is fullish, deep and intensely flavored, with a rock solid core of pure fruit, tangy acids, moderate, well-integrated tannins, and stunning length and grip on the complex finish. I had last tasted this wine at a big Musigny tasting back in the spring of 2001, and the wine has continued to improve since that time, and will most likely one day be looked back upon as the best example of the vineyard in this great vintage. Just a stunning young wine, and with time, I suspect my current score will seem unrealistically conservative." John Gilman, View From the Cellar #3, Jun 2006 |
