93+ JG. "The 2008 Chambolle “Charmes” is another absolutely stellar bottle in the making. In some vintages I feel that the Charmes here can be just a tad easy going for its own good, but the lower yields of 2008 have produced the grip, intensity and structural integrity that will make this a very, very special bottle at its apogee. The beautiful bouquet soars from the glass in a mix of cherries, strawberries, a touch of blood orange, cocoa, a deep base of chalky soil tones and a perfumed topnote of rose petals. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and very complex, with lovely transparency, a sappy core of fruit, impeccable balance and focus and a brilliant length and grip on the dancing finish. A beautiful and quintessential Chambolle." John Gilman, View From the Cellar #24, Dec 2009 |
