Lot #208. Moet & Chandon Dom Perignon Bjork & Chris Cunningham Limited Edition Brut 2006

Description: Consists of 1 Bottle, 0.75L
Region: France, Champagne.
Score: 97 AG.
"The 2006 Dom Pérignon is a beautifully balanced, harmonious Dom Pérignon that strikes an incredibly appealing stylistic middle ground. Rich, voluptuous and creamy, the 2006 shows off fabulous intensity in a style that brings together the ripeness of 2002 with the greater sense of verve and overall freshness that is such a signature of the 2004. Bass notes and a feeling of phenolic grip on the finish recall the 2003, as the Pinot Noir is particularly expressive today. After an irregular summer that saw elevated temperatures in July followed by cooler, damp conditions in August, more favorable weather returned in September, pushing maturation ahead and leading to a long, protracted harvest. The 2006 falls into the family of riper, more voluptuous Dom Pérignons, but without veering into the level of opulence seen in vintages such as 2002. A soft-spoken man of few words, Dom Pérignon’s longtime Chef de Caves Richard Geoffroy is one of the most provocative figures in Champagne. For years, Geoffroy has quietly pushed the envelope at Dom Pérignon with a series of thought-provoking, bold wines that have redefined what a Champagne grande marque is and can be. Between a bevy of strong new releases and a steady flow of ultra-rare and equally expensive late-disgorged releases from the P2 and P3 lines, there is little question Dom Pérignon is the most daring of the grande marques today. I recently sat down with Geoffroy to taste through a small vertical of Dom Pérignon going back to 2002. For the first time in the maison’s history, Dom Pérignon has released five successive vintages. This tasting provides a great opportunity to see how the 2006 compares to its older siblings and also check in on the 2002 and 2004, both now established as fabulous vintages at Dom Pérignon."
