97 AG. "The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is exceptionally beautiful, as it has always been. Sweet red cherry, sweet tobacco, dried flowers, plum, spice and mint are all pushed forward in an unusually deep, assertive Brunello from Campalto. The 2010 Riserva demands attention, and gets it. There is tremendous depth in the glass, yet the wine has also shut down considerably since I last tasted it about four months ago. With air, the 2010 begins to open up a bit, but it really needs to be left alone for at least another few years. These are two very beautiful wines from Stella di Campalto. Sadly, readers will have to be patient, as the 2010 Riserva will be released only later this year. That trend looks set to continue, as Campalto wants to give her wines more time in bottle before releasing them. Having tasted these wines for many years now, I can't really disagree. In just the last year, the 2010 Riserva has gone through several peaks and troughs of expression. In 2011, Campalto will have two new wines, each of them pure Sangiovese selections named after her daughters. Those wines won't be released for another eighteen months or so. In the meantime, the 2012 Rosso is a gorgeous wine to explore a house style that emphasizes minimal intervention in both the vineyards and cellar." Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com, Feb 2016 |
