Lot #148. Domaine Leroy Corton-Charlemagne 2006

Description: Consists of 1 Bottle, 0.75L
Score: 96+ ST.
"Pale yellow-gold color. Knockout nose combines pineapple, grapefruit zest, pear, crushed stone, clove and menthol; like an essence of this grand cru. Then wonderfully sappy and deep but with an impression of weightlessness, with outstanding precision to the penetrating flavors of grapefruit zest and liquid stone. A great expression of terroir, fully ripe but avoiding the exotic character shown by some 2006 whites. I tasted the 2006s in November with commercial director Frederick Roemer, as Lalou Bize-Leroy was away on business. Roemer believes that the estate's 2006s resemble their 2002s, in that "the wines are precise, with each appellation showing through clearly." The domain-wide yield was just 19 hectoliters per hectare, according to Roemer. Indeed, these are wonderfully pure, complex and stylish wines with plenty of structure for a long and slow evolution in bottle. They deserve better than to remain in the shade of the 2005s." Stephen Tanzer, Vinous.com, Mar 2009
