96 JG. "The 2005 vintage of Clos St. Jacques from Jean-Marie Fourrier remains a young wine, but its ultimate greatness is already very easy to appreciate, as this is a wine of spectacular depth and purity. The still youthful nose jumps from the glass in a blend of red and black cherries, plums, raw cocoa, gamebird, a complex base of chalky soil tones, woodsmoke and cedary oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and laser-like in its focus, with a rock solid core of fruit, great balance, brisk acids and a long, ripely tannic and nascently complex finish. All this great wine needs is more time in the cellar to complete its period of hibernation." John Gilman, View From the Cellar #95, Oct 2021 |
