93+ JG. "The 2017 Chambolle “Charmes” from Madame Barthod is truly a beautiful wine in the making. The bouquet is pure, refined and sappy, wafting from the glass in a vibrant mix of plums, cherries, violets, chalky soil tones, peonies, raw cocoa and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and shows off excellent mid-palate depth, with lovely focus and grip, suave tannins and a very long, primary and sappy finish. This is a beautiful bottle in the making, but I would try to leave it alone for a full decade and let it completely blossom before starting to have at it in earnest, for underneath the beautifully sappy fruit is a wine with a very good structural chassis."
