Lot #198. Pascal Marchand Nuits Saint Georges Les Vaucrains 2011

Description: Consists of 2 Bottles, 0.75L
Score: 90-93 AM.
"Here the nose is reserved almost to the point of being inexpressive and only aggressive swirling coaxes ripe dark berry fruit, spice and pungent earth aromas to reveal themselves. There is a distinctly sauvage character to the rich, intense, detailed and vibrant large-scaled flavors that possess a supple mid-palate and then tighten up significantly on the serious and sneaky long finish that delivers superb intensity. A classic Vaucrains .... Pascal Marchand, formerly of Domaine Comte Armand and Domaine de la Vougeraie (see herein), has founded his own négociant operation with financial partner Moray Tawse and is now producing reds and whites that he both vinifies as well as purchases. Marchand commented that in 2011 ‘I did a very soft vinification and used a lower percentage of whole clusters as well but it varied widely. One of the aspects of this vintage that I find very interesting is just how much the wines have changed during the course of the élevage as they have taken on more volume and have really fleshed out, particularly on the mid-palate. I really like the way the wines finish as they're suave but refreshing, clean and complex. You just feel like drinking them, which is always a good sign!’ The Armand and Tawse team have been acquisitive as of late as they bought Domaine Maume in Gevrey and then picked up the .08 ha parcel of Musigny from Christian Confuron."
