94 JG. "There was a time about a decade ago when I had the opportunity to drink the 1991 Verset Cornas with regularity, as a restaurant near my home had quite the stash of this wine in the cellar. However, that lovely wine was eventually drunk up off of the wine list, and it had been a few years since I last tasted the 1991 Cornas, which is a great vintage for Monsieur Verset. The bouquet is deep, vibrant and still quite young and pure, as it jumps form the glass in a blend of black raspberries, black olives, game, fresh-ground pepper, hot stones, medicinal syrah tones and woodsmoke. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep and powerfully built, with a rock solid core of pure fruit, still a touch of ripe tannin, lovely acids and impressive length and grip on the palate-staining finish. This is a superb vintage of Verset Cornas, and perhaps one of the best in what has been a stellar career." John Gilman, View From The Cellar #21, Jun 2009 |
