Lot #522. Giacomo Conterno Barolo Riserva Monfortino 1968

Description: Consists of 1 Bottle, 0.75L
Region: Italy, Piedmont, Barolo.
Score: 93 JG.
"This was the first time I had tasted the 1968 Monfortino as well, and it also is a very, very fine bottle of mature Barolo. The flavor and aromatic spectrum is not quite as classic as the 1970 and 1971, and reminds me quite a bit of a great old Sterling Cabernet made under the auspices of Ric Foreman back in the mid-1970s. The nose is deep, complex and very intriguing, soaring from the glass in a blend of black cherries, mint, a bit of petroleum jelly, licorice, bonfires, road tar, and a fine base of minerality. On the palate the ’68 Monfortino is a big, beautifully resolved old Barolo, with fine depth at the core, impressively integrated acidity, and a long, complex and tarry finish. Fine, fine juice." John Gilman, View From The Cellar, Apr 2004
Provenance: The Multitude Cellar
Notes: High shoulder, stained, lightly scuffed capsule, bin soiled, lightly scuffed, lightly damp stained label.
