93+ AG. "The 1999 Barolo Riserva Vigna Madonna Assunta La Villa is the first wine to come from this parcel in the Castelletto vineyard in Monforte. This Barolo is impressive for the sheer depth and luxuriousness of its fruit. Still incredibly primary, the wine remains quite backward although the French oak has begun to integrate. Still, I am not fully convinced about the decision to leave the wine in oak for an extended period, as the aromas aren't quite as defined and well-articulated as is normally the case here. Time will be ultimate judge, however. This Barolo spent 4 years in barrique, followed by a year in cask and five years in bottle." Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com, Jan 2008 |
