Haut-Brion 2020, 0.75L
Cabernet Sauvignon / Cabernet Franc / Merlot / Petit Verdot from Pessac Leognan, Bordeaux

"The 2020 Haut-Brion is a blend of 42.8% Merlot, 39.7% Cabernet Sauvignon and 17.5% Cabernet Franc, harvested from 7th to 29th September, with an estimated alcohol of 15% and a pH of 3.8. Opaque purple-black colored, it leaps from the glass with a first wave of vibrant black raspberries, ripe blackberries and mulberries scents, followed by a powerful core of warm cassis, dark chocolate and violets, before bursting into an array of crushed rocks, iron ore, tree bark and black truffles notes. The concentrated, densely packed, full-bodied palate is not in the least bit heavy, delivering a refreshing backbone of red berry and dried herbs suggestions, framed by seamless acidity and very finely grained tannins, finishing on an epically long, fragrant earth note. Simply stunning." 98-100 Points Lisa Perrotti- Brown, The Wine Advocate

Haut-Brion 2021, 0.75L
Bordeaux Blend from Pessac Leognan, Bordeaux

"A very structured young Haut-Brion with blackberry, blackcurrant, black-olive and mushroom character. Medium to full-bodied with a driving balance of firm and ripe tannins and gorgeous fruit." 97-98, James Suckling, May 2022

"A candidate for the title of wine of the vintage, the 2021 Haut-Brion unwinds in the glass with aromas of rich red and black fruit mingled with notions of cigar wrapper, licorice, black truffles, loamy soil and burning embers. Full-bodied, deep and concentrated, it's elegant and multidimensional, with superb depth at the core, lively acids and ultra-refined tannins. Combining the classical proportions of the vintages of two decades ago with the viticultural and winemaking of today, it's a timeless classic in the making, but it's difficult to find an obvious analogy with an older vintage. When pressed, Jean-Philippe Delmas suggests a superior version of the 2014 vintage, and to me, a more concentrated, serious version of the 2012 vintage also comes to mind. What is clear, however, is that this is one of the real high points of 2021. The blend is 50% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon and 12% Cabernet Franc, and it attained 13.8% alcohol—a percentage point or so lower than in 2020 or 2019." 96-98, William Kelley, Apr 2022

"One of the absolute stand out wines on 2021 with an electric appeal almost unrivalled in the vintage. Blackcurrant leaf, dark chocolate, cocoa powder, rose petals, sweet cherries and bramble fruits on the nose. Incredibly lively and energetic on the palate with a burst of sharp, sweet and sour fruits that just fills the mouth coated by chalk, slate and pencil lead mineral tannins that give a intensity while the fruit persistency lingers above and through to the long finish. Such delicacy yet multi-layered and full of concentration, clear ripeness and power, though delivered with suaveness and style. Tannins are firm and robust, mouthfilling, no doubt about that, but they give the structure and frame to the plush and plump fruit which also has such a crystalline purity to it. I love the intensity and also these spicy bitter dark chocolate and liquorice elements on the finish which give nuance." 97, Georgie Hindle, Decanter, Mar 2022

"As with the Clarence, the 2021 Château Haut-Brion is a darker, richer, more powerful wine. Currants, smoked black cherries, graphite, chocolate, and tobacco notes all define the nose, and it's medium to full-bodied, with a straight, focused, beautifully precise mouthfeel, gorgeous yet substantial tannins, and a great finish. It's going to hit maturity in 7-8 years and have 30 years of longevity or more." 95-97, Jeb Dunnuck, Jun 2022

"The 2021 Haut-Brion is all class, all finesse. Naturally the overt intensity of recent vintages is replaced by a more understated style in 2021. Silky tannins caress a core of dark cherry/plum fruit. Hints of lavender, new leather, cloves and menthol gradually open. The trademark Haut-Brion aromatics are going to need a number of years in bottle to develop." 95-97, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Apr 2022

Latour 1990, 0.75L
Bordeaux Blend from Pauillac, Bordeaux

"This is one of my favorite wines ever. Full-bodied, with layers of silky fruit and masses of currant, mineral and berry character. Amazing. It's a wine with perfect structure, perfect strength. It's 1961 Latour in modern clothes. It's hard not to drink it now. '89/'90 Bordeaux non-blind horizontal." 100, Wine Spectator, Feb 28, 2005

“A superb wine, ageing well, the 1990 Latour still seems deceptively youthful, with plenty of ripe mulberry and blackcurrant fruit, but there is also a graceful evolution, with truffle, earth and smoke notes. The texture is supple and warm, but it avoids the softness of some of the clarets from 1990. The tannins are still reasonably firm and the wine should continue to improve in the cellar for at least another 20 years.” 99, Charles Curtis MW, Decanter, Mar 2022

“A classic, powerful, regal Latour, the 1990 is solidly in its drink window and has a still-ruby hue as well as a gorgeous perfume of darker currants, tobacco leaf, new saddle leather, and graphite. It opens up beautifully with air and has the perfect mix of great fruit and purity with mature and complex, cedary nuances. Full-bodied on the palate, perfectly balanced, and with sweet yet still present tannins, it can safely be enjoyed any time over the coming 40-50 years.” 98, Jeb Dunnuck, Mar 2022

Leoville Las Cases 2018, 1.5L
Cabernet Sauvignon / Merlot from St. Julien, Bordeaux

"Pure magic and one of the finest expressions of this estate I could imagine, as well as a perfect wine, the 2018 Château Léoville Las Cases comes from a mix of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, and 9% Cabernet Franc that spent 19 months in (I believe) all new French oak. Its dense purple color is followed by a profound wine loaded with notions of crème de cassis, lead pencil shavings, melon, crushed stone, tobacco, and violets. Full-bodied, concentrated, and massive on the palate, yet also incredibly well delineated and precise, it has a wonderful mix of seemingly ripe, sunny fruit from a warm year yet the minerality, purity, and precision of a cooler year. This wine is going to be just about immortal; however, do your best to hide bottles for a solid 10-15 years. Drink: 2031-2081." 100 Jeb Dunnuck, JebDunnuck.com, Mar 2021

Mouton Rothschild 1986, 0.75L
Bordeaux Blend from Pauillac, Bordeaux

"The 1986 Mouton-Rothschild is a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot that was picked from 2 October until 16 October. Winemaker Philippe Dhalluin, who was not working at the property back then, told me that the pH was fairly low at 3.54 when it is usually around 3.75, due to the natural tartaric acid in the vines. It has a powerful and intense bouquet as always: exemplary graphite and cedar scents, a touch of black pepper and incense. It seems to unfurl in the glass, like a motor revving its engine. The palate is beautifully balanced with its trademark firm tannic structure, a Mouton-Rothschild with backbone and masculinity. Layers of black fruit intermingling with mint and graphite, a hint of licorice emanating from the Merlot, gently fanning out and my God, it is incredibly long. It is not like the 1985 Mouton-Rothschild that is so fleshy and generous. This is serious, aristocratic Mouton, a true vin de garde and yes, I do think drinkers will have to wait until it reaches its true peak. Sometimes that's just the way it is." 100, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Dec 2016

"This was the greatest bottle of the 1986 Mouton I have ever drunk. I have been lucky enough to drink it many times, but on occasions it has come across as very tight and reserved, even hard. Yet on this special night last Friday in Bangkok it was perfect – the perfect wine that it was purported to be for a very long time. How strange that the owner of Mouton, Philippine de Rothschild, died the same day. Please read my tribute to here. The bottle we drank showed amazing aromas of mushrooms, mint, minerals and dark berries. It boasted a fully body of ultra richness and extraordinary length and beauty. It had an almost chiseled precision to the quality with fabulous length. It lasts for minutes on the palate. My Thai friend decanted it four hours before serving." 100, James Suckling, Jun 2016

"A wine that's been closed every time I've been lucky enough to taste it previously, the 1986 Château Mouton Rothschild appears to have finally come around, and it’s pure Bordeaux gold today. Still deeply hued and vibrant, with no bricking, it has a powerful, full-bodied style carrying lots of pure black currants, scorched earth, graphite, tobacco leaf, and roasted coffee-like aromatics. Full-bodied and still incredibly concentrated on the palate, it has a massive mid-palate, polished yet still present tannins, and an incredible finish. A legendary bottle of wine, it lived up to every expectation on this occasion. It probably has another 50 years of life, but it's in a great spot today." 100, Jeb Dunnuck, May 2023

"Wonderful, concentrated and still astonishingly young, this has brushes of violet aromatics rising above the tight cassis fruits and rich black truffle, and the classic menthol edging of a Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated Pauillac. We drank this over lunch and it was breathtaking, but were told that 24 hours later it had blossomed even further, so make sure you give this a serious amount of time in carafe to open up - something that gives you just a small clue as to how structured, layered and complex the wine we are dealing with here is. 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot." 100, Decanter, Jul 2020

"Over the last couple of years, I had inclined to the view that the 1986 vintage was eclipsing the 1982 Mouton Rothschild, but two perfectly conserved bottles this year put paid to that hypothesis. One of the emblematic wines of the vintage, offering up aromas of sweet crème de cassis, cigar wrapper, espresso roast, spices and vine smoke, it's full-bodied, broad and enveloping, with a rich core of fruit; ripe, supple tannins; and a long, expansive finish. Lavish, even flamboyant, and at the same time seriously structured and quintessentially Mouton, it encapsulates the greatness of the vintage. For readers interested in numbers, the 1982 attained 12.3% alcohol with a pH of 3.64 (that information is the result of a great personal misfortune, because I sent a sample from a tragically corked magnum to the local enology lab for analysis out of curiosity)." 100, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Dec 2022

Bouchard Bonnes-Mares 2009, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Bonnes-Mares, Burgundy

“(I tasted a blend of Bouchard's three barrels) Good deep red. Wild, soil-driven aromas of brown spices, licorice, pepper, wild herbs, celery seed and toasted bread, plus a light yeasty quality. Big, silky and rich, with a flavor of clafoutis Unusually round and generous for young Bonnes-Mares. Quite horizontal on the back end, finishing with extremely sweet, fine-grained tannins for Bonnes-Mares and superb persistence. I would not be surprised to see this rate a score at the high end of my projected range.” 93+, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Jan 2011

Bouchard Chambertin-Clos de Bèze 2009, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Gevrey-Chambertin, Burgundy

"(like the Chapelle, this is also made from fruit purchased from Damoy) Bright dark red with ruby tones. Sexy aromas of black fruits, spices, dried flowers, licorice, espresso and chocolate. Juicy, penetrating and high-pitched in the mouth, with lovely floral and mineral lift to the complex flavors of red and darker fruits, leather and pepper. In a very upright, firmly structured style, and not at all exotic. Prost uses more tight-grained Vosges oak for this cuvee, which makes for a longer, slower oxygenation during elevage." 92-95, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Jan 2011

Bouchard Chambertin-Clos de Bèze 2012, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Gevrey-Chambertin, Burgundy

"Deep, bright red. Knockout vibrant nose combines purple and red berries, crushed stone, violet and animal fur. Lush, thick and deep but with terrific chalky energy animating the middle palate. Conveys striking depth to its red fruit and floral flavors, with the 45% new oak practically invisible today. Finishes with huge but round, noble tannins and outstanding lingering sweetness. In a more opulent style than the potentially great 2013, and probably for drinking before that wine." 95, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Nov 2014

Dugat-Py Charmes-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 2021, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Charmes-Chambertin, Burgundy

"Here the more reticent nose isn't as elegant though it is more complex with its layered blend of red and dark pinot fruit, anise and discreet earth and floral wisps. The supple and highly seductive medium weight flavors possess excellent depth and persistence on the mildly austere finale. This is already appealing and several years of cellaring should only enhance its attractiveness." 92-95, Allen Meadows, Burghound, Jan 2023

Dugat-Py Charmes-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 2022, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Charmes-Chambertin, Burgundy

“This superb wine boasts a dense and lovely ripe plum and blackberry fruit aroma with plenty of depth and substance. The tannins are supple and not at all astringent. The grapes come from several small organically farmed parcels near the top of the appellation close to Chambertin, blended with a bit of Mazoyères. They are vinified 75% as whole clusters, with a very gentle extraction before ageing in cask (one-third new). For maximum pleasure, age this for at least five years from release to allow it to open up.” 96, Charles Curtis MW, Decanter, Nov 2023

“The 2022 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru reveals the same seriousness it displayed in barrel. Unwinding in the glass with notes of cherries, dark berries, orange zest and petals, it's full-bodied, layered and enveloping, built around a chassis of sweet, powdery tannins and animated by lively acids. While this is generally the domaine's most immediate grand cru, the 2022 will nevertheless demand a bit of patience.” 95+, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Jan 2025

“An ultra-fresh nose is also quite floral in character with its mix of cool red berries, earth and a suggestion of forest floor character. The caressing and unusually refined larger-bodied flavors despite displaying impressive power and muscle on the hugely long, firm and serious finale. The refinement is largely due to the dense but fine-grained tannins that should enable this to successfully age and improve over the next 15 to 20 years.” 92-95, Allen Meadows, Burghound, Jan 2024

Dugat-Py Corton Charlemagne Vieilles Vignes 2019, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Corton-Charlemagne, Burgundy

"Offering up aromas of crisp green orchard fruit, buttery pastry, citrus zest, sesame, hazelnuts and nutmeg, the 2019 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is full-bodied, rich and concentrated, with a satiny attack that segues into an ample, layered mid-palate. Fleshy and dramatic, with huge reserves of structuring extract, it's a broad-shouldered, gastronomic wine that will enjoy a long life. The 2020 is another brilliant vintage for a domaine that has been on one of the hottest hot streaks in contemporary Burgundy in recent years. Vibrant flavors, beautifully refined tannins, striking concentration and moderate alcohols are the order of the day, and these young wines seem to unite the charm of 2019 and the seriousness of 2018 (at least at this address, which produced some of the wines of the vintage) with supplemental reserves of energy that mark them out as very special indeed. Clearly, the domaine's innovative viticulture, emphasizing high, unhedged canopies and biodynamic preparations, with soils cultivated to encourage deep rooting, meant the vines were better equipped to resist the heat and drought in 2020 than many of their neighbors (something a walk through Gevrey a few days before harvest 2020 enabled me to see for myself). It bears repeating that the Dugat-Py style has appreciably evolved in the last few years: Low yields, old vines and small-berried massal selections mean that these are inevitably deep, concentrated and age-worthy wines; but extraction isn't pushed so far as it once was, and—as I wrote last year—Loïc has also quietly reduced the percentage of new oak used here. Where, until recently, 100% new was the order of the day from all premiers and grands crus—and sometimes for communal appellations too—that has been much reduced: premiers crus now see around 50% new wood, and the Vosne-Romanée a mere 30%. The choice of forests, seasoning and toast has been refined too, and clearly Dugat-Py has never been so well served by Tonnellerie François Frères as they are today. So, I once again encourage readers to put outdated stereotypes of excessive oak and over-extraction to one side and try what is being produced today, as these are bottles that number among the finest that contemporary Burgundy has to offer." 94+, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Jan 2022

The finest white I've tasted from Dugat-Py to date is the 2022 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru, a brilliant wine that wafts from the glass with scents of pear, orange oil and citrus pith mingled with white flowers, buttery pastry and wet stones. Dugat-Py Corton-Charlemagne Vieilles Vignes 2023, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Corton-Charlemagne, Burgundy

“The beautiful, complex Corton-Charlemagne from Dugat-Py offers ripe pear, quince and passion fruit aromas, coloured with hints of soft white flowers, baking spice and butter. The texture is marvellously balanced; dense, rich and creamy, but not fat. The grapes are from 0.4ha of 55-year-old vines acquired from the estate of Gabriel Muscovac in Pernand (first vintage 2011). Dugat-Py gives the wine a traditional, long maturation in cask without stirring the lees. The vines are well-located for a warm vintage since they climb from mid-slope in Pernand to the top of the hill and have given a superb result in 2023.” 96, Charles Curtis MW, Decanter, Nov 2024

“The 2023 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is very promising, unwinding in the glass with aromas of peach and pear mingled with white flowers, orange oil, toasted bread, almonds and baking spices. Full-bodied, suave and seamless, it's ample and layered, with a lively spine of acidity and a long, chalky finish.” 94-96, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Jan 2025

Dugat-Py Mazis-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 2021, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Mazis-Chambertin, Burgundy

“The 2021 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru is less brooding than is often the case, no doubt thanks to the vintage. Wafting from the glass with notes of sweet red berries, wild plums, rose petals, cinnamon and potpourri, it's full-bodied, rich and layered, with a beautifully seamless, suave profile that means it's far from forbidding, even right out of the gates. Patience, however, will of course be rewarded.” 96, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Jan 2024

“This is also overtly floral in character with its wonderfully spicy, fresh and cool nose of mostly dark berries and discreet game wisps. There is both impressive volume and richness to the moderately dense and relatively refined flavors that deliver first-rate depth and persistence on the youthfully austere backend where the structure arrives all at once. This too is going to require plenty of patience.” 93-96, Allen Meadows, Burghound, Jan 2023

Dugat-Py Mazis-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 2022, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Mazis-Chambertin, Burgundy

“The 2022 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru is taut and mineral, unwinding in the glass with a typically brooding bouquet of dark berries and plums mingled with hints of rose petals, spices, burning embers and beetroot. Full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with lively acids, powdery tannins and a long, chalky finish, it will demand some patience.” 96+, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Jan 2025

“The Mazis from Dugat-Py is profound, if not as expressively open as other wines in the cellar, yet there is abundant substance here. The aromas are spicy and complex, with an impressive depth of flavour to the black plum fruit and a round, supple structure. The grapes are from 75-year-old vines in Mazis-Bas; with the next vintage, Loïc will add a cuvée of Mazis-Haut from a sharecropping agreement. The fruit is fermented as 90% whole clusters; ageing is in 50% new casks.” 95, Charles Curtis MW, Decanter, Nov 2023

“A fresh, cool and brooding nose only grudgingly reveals its aromas of red and dark currant, game, violet and plenty of earth that are trimmed in discreet though not invisible wood. The dense, sappy and supple broad-shouldered flavors possess evident power and muscle before concluding in a stony and hugely persistent finish that is expressly built to age. This isn't quite as vibrant as the Chambertin but I suspect that this is a transitory phase and my projected range offers the benefit of the doubt.” 92-94, Allen Meadows, Burghound, Jan 2024

Dugat-Py Mazis-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 2023, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Mazis-Chambertin, Burgundy

“As usual, the 2023 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru is the wine that will require the most patience in the Dugat-Py range this year. Unwinding in the glass with aromas of exotic spices, dark berries, blood orange and peony, it's full-bodied, deep and layered, with a brooding core of fruit underpinned by a chassis of fine, sweet tannins, concluding with a long, saline finish.” 95-97, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Jan 2025

“The Mazis-Chambertin from Dugat-Py also bears the stamp of Loïc’s commitment to elegance. The lush mulberry fruit is ripe (but not overly so), with hints of black tea, rosemary, and smoke. The tannins are very fine-grained, supporting the wine, but not dominating it. My notes on the day say: ‘Almost Charmes-like; complex and seductive but not lacking structure. This year there is a parcel of Mazis-Haut blended in with the 0.21 hectare domaine parcel of old vines in Mazis-Bas.” 96, Charles Curtis MW, Decanter, Nov 2024

“Overtly sauvage and earth-inflected aromas of spicy red and dark currant and forest floor nuances are trimmed in just enough wood to notice. There is both good volume and power to the even more mineral-driven larger-scaled flavors that also possess a highly sophisticated texture while delivering even better depth and persistence on the impeccably well-balanced finale. This is an absolute knockout though much like the Mazoyères, clearly built for the long-term.” 93-96, Allen Meadows, Burghound, Jan 2025

Dugat-Py Mazoyères-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 2022, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Mazoyères-Chambertin, Burgundy

“The 2022 Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru is no more structured than the Charmes-Chambertin this year, reflecting this cuvée's evolution towards greater suavity. Unwinding in the glass with aromas of red berries, rose petals, orange zest, sweet spices and smoke, it's full-bodied, deep and layered, with a deep core of fruit, lively acids and plenty of sweet, powdery tannin.” 94-96, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Jan 2024

“Here the smoky nose is even more floral-suffused with its similar array of cool red berry and forest floor accents. Like the Charmes, the mid-palate mouthfeel of the slightly bigger-bodied flavors is really quite refined with good detail and minerality apparent on the dusty, firm and well-balanced finale. This too should age gracefully over much of the next two decades.” 92-95, Allen Meadows, Burghound, Jan 2024

Dugat-Py Mazoyères-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 2023, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Mazoyères-Chambertin, Burgundy

“Loïc Dugat-Py continues to work on his version of Mazoyères, moving away from the massive, tannic style of previous vintages to something with much more precision and depth. The 2023 features charming blackberry fruit with a bit of bramble and earth – true complexity in an approachable format. The texture is supple yet still dense, and the length is truly impressive. The grapes are from a quarter-hectare parcel near the Aux Charmes lieu-dit; 90% are fermented as whole clusters, and the wine is currently ageing in cask (30% new).” 97, Charles Curtis MW, Decanter, Nov 2024

“The 2023 Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru continues this cuvée's progression toward greater sensuality and expressiveness. Bursting from the glass with aromas of dark berries and plums mingled with potpourri and spices, it's full-bodied, suave and multidimensional, with a layered, creamy core of fruit, polished tannins and a long, perfumed finish. In the past, the Mazoyères could be something of an inky monster; but today, while it's deeper-pitched than the Charmes, it feels as if it has more to say and less to prove.” 95-97, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Jan 2025

“A subtly oaked nose is comprised by notes of various dark berries that display markedly sauvage and forest floor nuances. The super-sleek, precise and almost painfully intense larger-bodied flavors possess a gorgeous texture as well as impressive minerality that adds a sense of lift to the youthfully austere, firm, dusty and hugely long finale. A buy and 'forget you own it' wine.” 92-95, Allen Meadows, Burghound, Jan 2025

Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Corton-Charlemagne 2022, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Corton-Charlemagne, Burgundy

"Generous wood stops short of fighting with the prominent petrol-scented nose of acacia blossom, soft citrus and a pretty array of spice nuances. The medium weight plus flavors are rich to the point of opulence though with no lack of power and minerality to the palate soaking finish. This is not an elegant rendition of the appellation but it doesn't lack for character or upside development potential." 92-94, Allen Meadows, Burghound, Jun 2024

Sylvain Cathiard Vosne Romanée 1er Cru 'En Orveaux' 2022, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Vosne Romanee, Burgundy

“The 2022 Vosne-Romanée En Orveaux 1er Cru has slightly darker, blacker fruit on the nose compared to the Aux Reignots, a heightened marine influence in the background - sea spray and hints of Japanese nori. The medium-bodied palate has firm tannins and more body than the Aux Reignots, with a grippy, quite intense finish. This will require 5-7 years in a cool cellar.” 93-95, Neal Martin, Vinous, Jan 2024

“Once again the nose is agreeably fresh and bright with its softly spicy array of red cherry, violet and wet stone. The wonderfully refined and lilting if not especially dense middleweight flavors that exude evident minerality on the firm, serious and youthfully austere finish. This is lovely and despite not being a monster of concentration, it's quite clear that this too is going to need extended keeping.” 91-94, Allen Meadows, Burghound, Jan 2024

Vincent Dauvissat Chablis 'Les Clos' Grand Cru 2020, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Chablis, Burgundy

“The 2020 les Clos from Monsieur Dauvissat is every bit as brilliant as the les Preuses. The nose soars from the glass in a blend of apple, pear, lime zest, a stunning base of flinty, chalky, wet stone minerality and oyster shell, vanillin oak and a topnote of fruit blossoms. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and shows off a gorgeous core of fruit, but the real beauty here is in the stunningly complex base of minerality, coupled with vibrant acids, impeccable focus and grip and a very, very long, dancing and seamlessly balanced finish.” 98, John Gilman, View From The Cellar, Nov 2021

Jerome Prevost La Closerie Fac-simile Extra Brut Rose Champagne LC18 NV, 0.75L
Pinot Meunier from Gueux, Champagne

"Disgorged without dosage, the NV Extra Brut Rosé Fac-similie (LC18) bursts with aromas of red berries, plums and spices mingled with freshly baked bread and dried white flowers. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and sapid, with delicate structure and an enveloping core of irresistibly succulent fruit, lively acids and a long, saline finish. While the Fac-similie shares the charm of its white counterpart, its gently phenolic grip seems to temper some of the exuberance of the vintage." 96 Points, William Kelley, Wine Advocate

Gaja Barbaresco Costa Russi 2020, 0.75L
Nebbiolo from Barbaresco, Piedmont

“Lavender and sage with berries and dried strawberries, but so perfumed and subtle. Medium- to full-bodied with very fine tannins that are totally integrated with finesse and beauty at the end. Caresses your palate.” 97, James Suckling, Jun 2023

“The 2020 Costa Russi was also tasted from barrel and takes on more depth and concentration from the Barbaresco, though is beautifully floral and expansive, with notes of wild strawberry and lavender. Medium-bodied, with fantastic length and persistence, this beautiful wine is showing incredibly well at this early stage prior to release, but it does have a bit more tannin structure that will benefit from more time in bottle over the next year or so.” 95-97, Audrey Frick, Jeb Dunnuck, May 2023

“The 2020 Barbaresco Costa Russi is a classy, polished wine. Dark cherry, plum, mocha, new leather, licorice and lavender all take shape. As always, Costa Russi is the most supple and charming of the Gaja Barbarescos in the early going.” 96, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Sep 2023

“The Gaja 2020 Barbaresco Costa Russi has a rose and floral note that emerges at first, and it doesn't have the heavy dark earth or cured leather aromas that we get in the Barbaresco. This wine is focused on fruit tones, bright ones, and those nuances are juicy, generous and long. There's more youth in this wine, and the tannins are extremely fine and silky. Count on this wine to improve with age.” 95, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Apr 2024

Vega Sicilia Reserva Especial Unico (2022 Release) NV, 0.75L
Tempranillo Blend from Ribera del Duero, Castilla y León

“Sweet-berry, walnut, licorice and violet aromas that follow through to a full body with round, chewy tannins that are polished and beautiful. Notes of iron, too. The tannins are broad and mouth filling, giving a caressing and exciting texture on the palate. If you give this a year to two to soften, it will deliver even greater richness and flavor. A blend of 2008, 2010 and 2011.” 99, James Suckling, Sep 2021

“The NV Único Reserva Especial 2022 Release is a blend of wines from 2008, 2010 and 2011, mostly Tinto Fino with some Cabernet Sauvignon mixing lots from the Único wines from those years. In the past, the blend was older vintages, but now it's wines that are around the same age as the Único. It has the complexity of mixing terroirs, vintages and grapes with parameters very similar to Único, 14.5% alcohol and good balance with a pH of 3.83 and 5.4 grams of acidity (measured in tartaric acid per liter). In the blend, they look for keeping the style of past blends, combining the more aged notes of the older wines and the freshness of the younger ones. I was very pleasantly surprised by the performance of this Reserva Especial, which seems to be going back to the character of the blends from yesteryear, with more finesse, elegance and nuance. This is perfumed, elegant, harmonious and balanced. It has very fine, already polished tannins and integrated acidity. 2008 and 2010 are cooler years, and they seem to give the blend this freshness and elegance. It has all the components, and especially the balance between all of them, to age nicely in bottle. 16,961 bottles and 201 magnums were filled in June 2018.” 98, Luis Gutierrez, Wine Advocate, Dec 2021

“The Unico Reserva Seleccion Especial has become a cult, and no wonder. As Pablo Alvarez says: ‘It’s the most Vega Sicilia of them all.’ The 2022 release, a blend of the complexity of 2008, the structure of 2010 and the freshness of 2011 is far more than the sum of its parts. Floral with red apples and roses on the nose. In the mouth a firm grip, juicy, textured, a wine that is comfortably settled into itself. Not a very technical tasting note perhaps, but accurate: thoroughly enjoyable.” 97, Sarah Jane Evans MW, Decanter, Jul 2021

Vega Sicilia Unico 2003, 0.75L
Tempranillo Blend from Ribera del Duero, Castilla y León

“Almost 20 years on from the vintage and this Único is full of life, with perfumed aromas and a fresh, textured palate with well-integrated tannin. It was a famously hot year (though the Vega Sicilia notes only say that the summer was warm), but despite that it has avoided cooked fruit. Full and fleshy with a savoury finish - a surprise, given the year. Mild, frost-free spring, warm summer without rains, then a cold harvest in late September. 25 months in large-capacity wooden vats, 17 months in new barrels, 10 months in semi-new barrels, then 22 months back in large-capacity wooden vats. Aged in bottle then released in 2013. 76,050 bottles, 2,616 magnums, 150 double magnums and six Imperials. Tasted from magnum.” 96, Sarah Jane Evans MW, Decanter, Sep 2022

“Showing some grilled-meat, dried-mint and savory olive notes with balsamic, sour cherries and nutmeg. Polished and velvety on the palate, with a full body and firm, caressing tannins. Rich and delicious combination of ripe fruit, chocolate and savory olive notes throughout, with a fleshy finish. 92% tempranillo and 8% cabernet sauvignon. Tasted from magnum.” 96, James Suckling, Sep 2022

“2003 was the year of the "canicule" in Europe, an extremely warm summer that made Germans acidify their Rieslings and saw Bordeaux with 40 degrees Celsius during Vinexpo. In that context, the 2003 Único showed surprisingly well. It's tannic, serious and austere, a little in the style of 2005. It's mainly Tempranillo with 8% of Cabernet Sauvignon and 14% alcohol with a warm nose and a softer palate, gentler compared with 2005. 2,616 magnums produced.” 94+, Luis Gutierrez, Wine Advocate, Jan 2023

Lokoya Cabernet Sauvignon Mount Veeder 2021, 0.75L
Cabernet Sauvignon from Mt. Veeder, California

“Insane aromas of black currants, crushed stones, violets, and sweet dark tobacco. Black truffle. Full-bodied with superb depth of fruit and plush and chewy tannins that give tension and length. It reminds me of the 1975 La Mission Haut Brion because of the stone, iodine and purple fruits. Love. Made from 100% cabernet sauvignon. 883 cases produced. Needs four or five years to come together.” 100, James Suckling, Nov 2023

“Since 1995, Lokoya has produced Cabernet from the Veeder Peak Estate at 548m on the western ridges of the Mayacamas Mountains. This is a do-not-open wine for until at least 2026. Full-bodied with palate-arresting tannins that are super-compact, long, and so densely pixelated they etch themselves into every nook and cranny on the palate. Only a minute later does your mouth find release as this thread of crunchy acidity begins to sweep away the powerful tannins to reveal the underlying blue fruit and violet aromatics that are so beautifully pure and youthful. Simply put, tuck it away for several years and then, if you can, explore bottles every few years until your stash runs out. In the low-yielding 2021 vintage, the skin-to-juice ratio is such that this may prove to be one of the longest-lived Lokoya wines yet, given the intensity of the tannin and the freshness of the underlying acidity. Chris Carpenter makes the Lokoya wines, and the label is owned by the Jackson Family. There are four 100% Cabernet Sauvignon wines in the portfolio, each from a different mountain: Diamond Mountain, Howell Mountain, Spring Mountain, and Mt. Veeder. The winemaking is the same for all the wines, with mostly native yeast fermentation, pump-overs by hand, malolactic fermentation in barrel and ageing for 22 months in 90% new French oak. What separates these wines is not style but place. Carpenter believes that fine Napa Valley Cabernet wines are not only defined by the soils of their sites but also by the Bay Area Pacific breezes that roll in and out daily, cooling the valley from the south to the north in the evenings and from the north to the south in the mornings. These mountains define cooling as any place in the valley and the diurnal temperature shifts at higher elevations create an equilibrium where climatic fluctuations aren't as pronounced as fruit grown below the fog lines.” 99, Jonathan Cristaldi, Decanter, Jul 2024

“A massive, powerful, full-bodied beast of a wine that reminds me of a great vintage of Ch teau Latour with its structure and regal character, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Mount Veeder offers a beautiful bouquet of blackberries, wild cherries, iron, spring flowers, and wild scrub brush. It's concentrated, has massive extract and richness, no shortage of tannins, and a huge finish. It's not for the instant gratification crowd and needs 7-8 years of bottle age, but it will see its 30th birthday in fine form.” 98+, Jeb Dunnuck, Dec 2023

Opus One 2019, 1.5L
Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley, California

"The purity of fruit is really something else here, with currants and fresh flowers, such as violets and roses. Flower stems as well. Fantastic length and structure to the wine, with tightness and focus. Wonderful fruit. Graceful. A blend of 78% cabernet sauvignon, 8% merlot, 7% petit verdot, 6% cabernet franc and 1% malbec. Try after 2028". 99 Points, James Suckling

"Winemaker Michael Silacci commented that usually the blends are finished in January or February after the vintage. This year, with the 2019s, he was still tweaking the blend, but he did mention that this is "pretty close to the final blend." Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 Opus One leaps from the glass with notes of Black Forest cake, Morello cherries, mulberries and fresh blackcurrants plus hints of licorice, wilted roses, Sichuan pepper and iron ore. Full-bodied, the palate is jam-packed with juicy black, blue and red fruits, framed by velvety tannins and background freshness, finishing on a compelling earthy/mineral note. Tasted as a barrel sample, this is a truly magnificent Opus One in the making!" 97-99 Points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate

Realm Cellars Proprietary Red The Absurd 2014, 0.75L
Bordeaux Blend from Napa Valley, California

"A blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and the rest Petit Verdot, is the 2014 The Absurd, basically a choice of their finest barrels, or as winemaker and owner Benoit Touquette says, “The crème de la crème.” This is another perfect wine equaling their incredible 2013. Yet the 2014 is slightly more forward and showy, as many 2013s are just beginning to shut down. There are 250 cases of this majestic wine that has an opaque purple color, extraordinary nose of spring flowers, blueberry, blackberry, creosote, charcoal, toast and spice. The wine has unbelievable fruit on the attack, midpalate and finish, compelling purity, texture and a finish of close to a full minute. It is (as advertised by the winery) a 'showcase of the best of Napa Valley with the freedom of expression that results from no rules." 100, Robert M. Parker, Jr, Wine Advocate, Dec 2016
