“The NV Brut Nature Les Murgiers is mostly Muenier with a slap of Pinot Noir based on 2019, with 20% reserve wines. Bright and nervy with a refined mousse, the Murgiers is a bundle of energy today. White pepper, chalk, mint and dried flowers add complexity. Readers should expect an especially taut Meunier-based Champagne. The half bottle of this same wine showed more mid-palate texture and creaminess, along with expressive red fruit, spice and hazelnut flavors, giving a very good idea of where this wine is headed in time …. "It is hard to believe that Vincent Laval’s bottling from les Hautes Chèvres made the switch from very old vine pinot noir after the 2009 vintage to (not quite so) old vine pinot meunier in 2010 and never missed a beat in terms of quality and aging potential. The 2017 is the eighth harvest of pinot meunier composition for this beautiful cuvée and it is another gorgeous young wine. The bouquet is bright, pure and complex, offering up scents of tangerine, apple, brioche, chalky soil tones, lavender, acacia blossoms and just a hint of oak in the upper register. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, crisp and deep at the core, with lovely transparency and grip, pinpoint bubbles, precise focus, seamless balance and a very, very long, refined and complex finish. "Based 70% on the 2013 vintage plus 30% oaked reserve wines, the NV Royale Réserve Brut blends 65% Pinot Noir with 30% Chardonnay and 5% Pinot Meunier. The recent release was disgorged as Brut (with eight grams per liter of dosage) in July 2017 and opens with a clear and very delicate bouquet of red fruits (raspberries).
