93+ VM. "Dark red. Refined aromas of dark red cherry, blackcurrant, lavender, sage, rosemary and tobacco on the multidimensional nose. Textured, pure and classy, with very long, mineral-driven dark red berry and cherry flavors framed by noble, smooth tannins and complicated by a tarry element. This very striking new bottling from Frescobaldi is made from 90% old-vine sangiovese and 10% similarly old colorino, malvasia nera and canaiolo nero. I find it much more elegant and polished than the regular Nipozzano Riserva Chianti Rufina, as well as less fleshy and ripe than the Montesodi. There is an element of purity here that is absolutely irresistible. This will improve further with age: Frescobaldi has a real winner." Ian d'Agata, Vinous.com, Dec 2014 |
