“The 2013 Brut Nature Les Rachais, 100% Chardonnay, is fabulous. It offers a beguiling mix of freshness, drive and power. Lemon confit, chamomile, dried flowers, mint and tangerine oil are some of the many notes that open with some coaxing. The 2013 could use another year or two in bottle, but it is already showing a good bit of mid-palate pliancy to match its natural energy. This really opens beautifully with air …. This is a terrific set of wines from Francis Boulard et Fille, which is now run by Francis’ daughter Delphine. Sustainable farming and low intervention winemaking yield Champagnes that are marked by delineation, focus and remarkable purity. The NV Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Les Vieilles Vignes is a fine introduction for readers who are new to the wines, while the 2013 Brut Nature Les Rachais shows how special this vintage is in the right hands.” |
