A reserved if gorgeously elegant and subtly oaked nose of pungent earth and fresh red pinot fruit is followed by rich, delineated, full-bodied and beautifully textured flavors that possess outstanding drive and length on the sweet but dusty finish. This is a moderately structured wine compared to say the Chambertin and one that remains youthfully serious for what is still a backward Clos de Vougeot. Like most of the Leroy '96s, this will require some additional patience but should be well worth the wait. Consistent notes.
