Still deeply colored. Fresh, pure and still remarkably youthful with earthy and still almost largely if not completely primary spicy red and black pinot fruit that complements the delicious, intense, velvety, concentrated and serious medium weight plus flavors that culminate in a mouth coating and extraordinarily complex finish that delivers outstanding length. The typical minerality of the Clos des Epeneaux is on parade in this vintage and adds to the underlying sense of elegance and finesse. However, as impressive as the depth and refinement is here, what I appreciate most is the impeccable balance as the once almost strident tannins have now mostly rounded out and as such, this is close to reaching its apogee. In sum, a lovely vintage that should arrive at its peak in the next few years and then be capable of holding here for the better part of two decades. Note that I have had some bottle variation though this may very well have been due to storage issues than true bottling variances.
