Lot 431
Estimate: $600
Five 1 cm or less; one slightly torn label. All corks very slightly recessed. 1996 Fougeray de Beauclair Bonnes Mares Grand Cru -- Wine Spectator (Sep 30, 1998): "Magnificent. Ripe and sweet, full-bodied, thick and opulent, this dances with grace across the palate, delivering subtle kisses of flavor--spicy mocha, blackberry, rose petal and mineral. The finish is smooth and silky, yet it's not soft or dull because the acidity carries it to a long, fresh completion. . . . " 94 points

"I have a sentimental attachment to this bottle that was given to me many years ago when I visited the region with friends. It tasted spectacular back in the late 1990âs, but I was just a neophyte, my judgement too lenient, no? Actually, this verified my original appraisal and moreover, my table of Pinot-hounds were similarly smitten by this outstanding wine. Clear and lucid in colour. The nose has a sumptuous quality to it with blueberry, iodine, violets and briary â it hardly seems to have aged over the last ten years. The palate is medium-bodied with svelte tannins, very good weight and lovely rounded texture, caressing the palate and the back of the throat. It has an âRSVâ quality to it. A truly wonderful wine from a grower I must catch up upon."
