"One of the standouts of the decade, the 1964 La Tâche Grand Cru vies with the 1962 and 1966. Showing modest bricking on the rim, it has a vigorous bouquet with copious red fruit mixed with black tea, briary and pressed flowers, beautifully defined but full and generous. The palate is medium-bodied with superb energy given its age, layers of red fruit laced with truffle and Provençal herbs, just a tang of Earl Grey towards the very persistent and quite haunting finish. Maybe the 1966 has more breeding but you cannot deny the brilliance of this wine. Tasted at a private dinner in Hong Kong."
