97 JG "The king of the cellar is going to be outstanding in 2002, but this is the norm at the home of the worldâs greatest example of le Montrachet. The nose is still quite primary, but complex at the same time, soaring from the glass in a mĂ©lange of pear, sweet limes, a bit of passion fruit, mint, kaleidoscopic minerals, incipient notes of butter and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full and multi-leveled, with a rock solid core of fruit, laser-like focus, and stunning length and grip on the finish. A great wine in the making, as usual." 94-97 AM The fermentation aromas again make the nose tough to read but there are touches of pain grillĂ©, oak spice and white flower aromas in the background. This is every bit as big as the BĂątard and even more powerful with massive, incredibly intense full-bodied flavors of superb depth and breadth and so much dry extract that this seems almost chewable. The flavors are easily the most backward of any of these wines and this will take years to fully realize its enormous potential. A genuinely great effort of monumental proportions.
