89 · ****
89 RP Wonderful aromas of tobacco, berry and currants. Full-bodied, with a solid core of fruit and vanilla character. Long and silky on the finish, with ripe tannins. The little brother of La Mission.I know the 1949 (tasted 6/97) very well, having purchased a case at auction in 1990. It is a fully mature, sweet, very fragrant, light to medium-bodied wine. This elegant and delicate offering requires consumption. **** MB "Always a favourite château, at least until more recent years. The '49 had a particularly beautiful colour and . . . an exquisitely perfumed bouquet."
