"The Savigny âMarconnetsâ had a very late malolactic this year, and consequently was still in barrel at the time of my visit. The wine offers up an excellent nose of red and black cherries, superb minerality, woodsmoke, dark chocolate and incipient notes of the game to come with bottle age. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, tangy and ripely tannic, with a fine core of fruit, lovely focus and balance and a very long, classy finish. This may eventually drink well a year or two sooner than some of the other fine Savigny premier crus in the cellar this year, but it should be equally long-lived and provide an awful lot of pleasure during the course of its life."

The world's most influential fine-wine producer and the benchmark for Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne and the Rhone. Its appellation (AOC) system codifies geography, grape and method, and its wines set the global standard for age-worthiness and terroir expression.
Produces the world's most revered Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from a mosaic of tiny, terroir-defined climats. Its hierarchy of village, Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards makes site the ultimate expression of quality.
2009 in Burgundy was warm and sunny, producing ripe, rich and generous reds of hedonistic charm and supple tannins; the whites are opulent but can lack acidity, making them best enjoyed relatively young.
A thin-skinned, terroir-sensitive red producing perfumed, silky and elegant wines of red-berry fruit and earthy complexity. It reaches its apogee in Burgundy.
