"The spectacular 1998 Coteaux du Languedoc La Porte du Ciel was fashioned entirely from Syrah harvested at 14 hectoliters per hectare. Each bunch was destemmed by hand and crushed by foot. The wine's alcoholic fermentation lasted 40 days, after which it was placed in new Seguin-Moreau barrels. In short, this wine was produced in an uncompromising manner."

The world's most influential fine-wine producer and the benchmark for Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne and the Rhone. Its appellation (AOC) system codifies geography, grape and method, and its wines set the global standard for age-worthiness and terroir expression.
Syrah (Shiraz) produces dark, powerful reds with black fruit, pepper and smoked-meat notes. It yields elegant, perfumed wines in the northern Rhone and bold, rich styles in Australia.
