"The 1971 Mummâs CuvĂ©e RenĂ© Lalou is impressively bright and vibrant for a forty year-old bottle of bubbly, but it still retains just a touch of angularity on the palate from its early days. The first class bouquet jumps from the glass in a musky blend of backed apples and peaches, warm biscuits, stony soil tones, a touch of acacia blossom and grapefruit peel in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, crisp and focused, with a good core, plenty of minerality, good mousse, sound acids and very good length and grip on the finish . . . . this is really very fine juice and still quite young for its age."
