"Proprietor Lafondâs impressive 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape Roc Epine is his debut release of this wine . . . . It possesses plenty of up-front fruit along with a full-bodied, dense, concentrated personality. It gets my nod as one of the sexiest, most opulent efforts from a vintage that produced relatively structured, slightly backward wines. A deep ruby/purple color is followed by a loaded Chateauneuf offering a cascade of blackberry and cherry fruit intertwined with hints of spice box, pepper, and dried Provencal herbs."
