97 JG "As I swooned over my glass of Terres Blanches, Christophe laughed and said that 'you always prefer the Terres Blanches.' While it is probably true that I will give a slight nod in most vintages to the Terres Blanches over the Terres Rouges when the two are on their own, I have almost always found that the blend is superior to either of the two cuvĂ©es on their own. But not this year, as the floral character of the best 2006 red Burgundies reaches a fever pitch with the Terres Blanches, and it was one of the most gloriously beautiful bouquets I encountered during my two weeks of tasting in the CĂŽte dâOr. The nose soars from the glass in a perfumed mĂ©lange of sappy, pure cherries, crystallized strawberries, orange zest, brilliant, kaleidoscopic minerality, and a pungent topnote redolent of both roses and violets. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and urgent, with Musigny-like shape and depth, fine-grained tannins, beautiful acidity and a magically long, complex and ethereal finish. Liquid magic." 93 AM ...Combines both upper and lower register fruit aromas, particularly blue berry as well as notes of crushed herb, violet, wet stone, anise, clove, earth and underbrush, most of which can also be found on the rich, full and very serious big-bodied and tautly muscular flavors...
