92+VM
"Deep medium ruby. Sexy, meaty aromas of currant, plum, graphite and spice cake. Fat, sweet, lush and deep, but also sappy and juicy, with a strong component of spicy oak. Very firm acids contribute to the impression of grip. Finishes with building but rather refined tannins and terrific persistence. More elegantly styled but less powerful than the tougher '98 release, with more obvious early sweetness. This classic Rioja blend of tempranillo, mazuelo and graciano spent 22 months in American oak vats, then 16 months in French barrels that had been broken in by being used to ferment Muga's white wine."

Spain has the largest area under vine of any country and a deep tradition of oak-aged reds. Tempranillo-based wines from Rioja and Ribera del Duero, alongside Priorat's Garnacha and Carinena, anchor its fine-wine reputation.
Spain's noble red grape, producing structured, savory wines of red fruit and leather that respond beautifully to oak aging in Rioja and Ribera del Duero.
