"More sweet, ripe and up-front, with a downright sexy profile, the 2003 James Berry Vineyard Bone Rock checks in as a blend of 88% Syrah, 8% Grenache and 4% Mourvedre. From a hot vintage and a time when producers were pushing on the ripeness scale, this blockbuster pulls it off in style and offers up loads of sweet blackberry and kirsch fruit, dried flowers, incense, garrigue and licorice-like aromas and flavors. Showing tons of sweet fruit on the palate, with full-bodied richness and depth, sweet tannin and a great finish . . . I’m a fan. It should continue to put a smile on everyone’s face . . . . Starting with the Bone Rock releases, these come from a west-facing, terraced section of James Berry Vineyard. It’s named after the incredible whale bones that were found while creating the terraces."

The fourth-largest wine producer in the world, led by California. American fine wine is defined by ripe, expressive fruit and a spirit of innovation, with Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon among the most sought-after wines globally.
Syrah (Shiraz) produces dark, powerful reds with black fruit, pepper and smoked-meat notes. It yields elegant, perfumed wines in the northern Rhone and bold, rich styles in Australia.
