"Pierre-Yves Colin candidly commented that he 'didn't really like the '09s at first but as the Êlevage progressed, they slowly gained in both freshness and finesse. We began picking early relative to most of my neighbors, which is to say on the 4th of September and in hindsight I'm glad that we did so because even starting as early as we did the fruit was really very ripe. Thankfully it was also super clean with potential alcohols that ranged between 12 and 13%. I pressed hard but very slowly as the skins were quite thick. I had to have two presses going at once because each batch required 3.5 to 4 hours from start to finish which is very long by the standards that are typical in Burgundy. Because of my concerns about the elevated ripeness of the fruit and a desire to preserve as much freshness and precision as possible, I did no lees settling, no chaptalization and no bâtonnage. I also lowered the percentage of new wood to between 20 and 25%. The '09s are in a style that will be more popular than the '07s or the '08s and will be easier for the average consumer to understand. Overall, now that the wines are either in bottle or will be bottled shortly, I am very happy with the quality as it's a happy surprise relative to what I thought that it might be when we were in the middle of the harvest.' Colin also observed that he is now capping each bottle with wax as an aid in fighting potential premature oxidation issues."

Produces the world's most revered Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from a mosaic of tiny, terroir-defined climats. Its hierarchy of village, Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards makes site the ultimate expression of quality.
A pinnacle of white Burgundy, producing taut, mineral and long-lived Chardonnay of great precision and finesse.
2009 in Burgundy was warm and sunny, producing ripe, rich and generous reds of hedonistic charm and supple tannins; the whites are opulent but can lack acidity, making them best enjoyed relatively young.
The world's most versatile white grape, producing everything from steely Chablis to rich, oaked whites. Its neutrality makes it a mirror of terroir and winemaking, and the foundation of white Burgundy and Champagne.
