"In 2005 Monsieur Geoffray bottled a bit of the La Chapelle on its own, and it too is a lovely wine in the making. Interestingly, the wine is a bit more fruit-driven and open for inspection than the blended version, as it jumps from the glass in a blaze of plums, black cherries, cocoa, a touch of game and a nice base of soil (which is nowhere near as minerally as the blended cuvĂŠe.) On the palate the wine is deep, full and quite powerfully built, with broad shoulders, an intense, sappy core of fruit, ripe tannins, and a long, powerful and primary finish that is much more fruit-driven than the blended bottling. This too will be a stellar example of the vintage. Personally I am a bit more drawn to the stunning minerality of the above wine, but I can also imagine that there are fans that would much prefer the more opulent and sappy core of fruit of the La Chapelle bottling. Equally superb."
