"The huge 1997 Coteaux du Layon Beaulieu Les Rouannieres aromatically displays a compote of over-ripe fruits. It is massively rich, oily-textured, dense, and crammed with red fruits, jammy apricots, and quince. While it is in the style of the "sugar hunters" (see the introduction of The Wine Advocate's Issue #113 for a detailed explanation of this genre), it is better balanced than the majority of those wines."
