"Chapoutier produced an astonishing 1990 Vin de Paille. Made from a microscopic 9 hectoliters per hectare, this wine (the grapes spend two and a half months on straw mats before they are crushed and vinified) is an unctuous, unbelievably rich, fabulously perfumed, honeyed wine with extraordinary balance for its massive size. Unfortunately, there were only 225 cases of this nectar. These wines can be expected to age for 40-50 years."

The world's most influential fine-wine producer and the benchmark for Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne and the Rhone. Its appellation (AOC) system codifies geography, grape and method, and its wines set the global standard for age-worthiness and terroir expression.
Spans the Syrah-driven northern crus of Cote-Rotie and Hermitage and the Grenache-based blends of the warmer south, led by Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Its wines are known for power, spice and warmth.
