"With his 2003 Barbaresco Pajore Sottimano has produced another gem and this wine is clearly on another level from the preceding wins. It opens with a deeply expressive, nuanced nose offering a multitude of spice and mineral aromas. On the palate it displays notable length as well as an awesome combination of finesse and power, with layers of ripe fruit that gradually come to the fore as the wine opens up in the glass. The older vines and more compact soil composition at Pajore helped the fruit maintain more freshness than is evident in the estate’s other Barbarescos."

Italy grows more indigenous grape varieties than any other country and produces wine in all 20 of its regions. From Piedmont's Nebbiolo to Tuscany's Sangiovese, its finest wines pair structure and bright acidity with a strong sense of place.
In Italy's northwest, Piedmont is home to Nebbiolo, the grape behind the powerful, perfumed and long-lived reds of Barolo and Barbaresco. Fog-shrouded hills and calcareous soils define its greatest wines.
Produces Nebbiolo of slightly more elegance and approachability than neighboring Barolo, offering perfume, finesse and firm structure.
Produces pale but powerfully tannic and perfumed reds with tar, rose and cherry notes. The grape behind Barolo and Barbaresco, it is among the most age-worthy in the world.
