"The 1968 Viña Real Gran Reserva is an excellent bottle, offering up a deep and very pure bouquet of cassis, black cherries, dark soil nuances, woodsmoke, a touch of red curry, cigar ash, just a touch of pepper and a hint of sweet balsamic tones in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and at its absolute apogee today, with a great core of fruit, melting tannins and superb length and grip on the complex and very vibrant finish."

Spain has the largest area under vine of any country and a deep tradition of oak-aged reds. Tempranillo-based wines from Rioja and Ribera del Duero, alongside Priorat's Garnacha and Carinena, anchor its fine-wine reputation.
