Lot 2150
Estimate: $300
"This Boal 1982 is classified as Frasqueira because it has been aging in old French oak casks for more than 20 years in our family property warehouse. The Boal grapes, from which this wine was produced, had its origin in the Campanario district, which lies on the south side of the island, and is well known as a fine traditional source of this noble grape variety. From the many Frasqueira wines existing in our inventories it was the right time to bottle this one for the first time. We have filled 1,200 bottles. Along its aging period we managed to control the evaporation level of the wine moving into 60 litres demijohns 5 years before bottling. Under these circumstances the wine did not reach the maximum sugar level that can be found in a Boal, allowing its acidity to become emergently fresh and very pleasant at the end of the mouth. - Funchal, May, 2007, Ricardo Diogo V. Freitas."
