"I am accustomed to many of the wines of Joseph Drouhin showing rather austerely in their youths, as is the case with many of the domaines who do not destem. However, only the ’99 Griottes-Chambertin is typically austere in its youth, with every other Drouhin 1999 showing remarkable complexity and approachability out of the blocks. None is better than the Musigny, which explodes from the glass to offer up complex and classic notes of red and black cherries, orange zest, plums, milk chocolate, iron-like soil tones, a whisper of game, intense mustard seed, ginger-like spices and cedary wood. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, refined and intensely-flavored, with perfect balance, great sappy depth at the core, round, ripe tannins, and tremendous length and focus on the complex finish. This wine is flat out delicious right now, and given the fact that Drouhin Musigny always puts on weight and sweetens up with bottle age, I hate to think just how good this wine will be in another eight to ten years. Utterly stunning young juice."
