"The 1996 Cannubio is a beautiful example of the vintage that is currently quite shut down and in need of several more years bottle age. The reticent and very pure nose offers up a lovely mélange of black cherries, red plums, a very faint whiff of barnyard, camphor, roses, a very complex base of soil tones and a nice touch of balsam boughs in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, strikingly pure and very closed, with a fine core of fruit buried behind its structural elements. The finish is firm and quite reticent, but the future elegance and breed of this wine are very much in evidence even in its adolescence. The tannins are ripe, beautifully-integrated into the base of the wine and quite suave, and when coupled with the wine’s lovely, tangy acidity, promise to make this an extremely vivid and long-lived bottle of Barolo from this classic vintage. A great wine in the making."

Italy grows more indigenous grape varieties than any other country and produces wine in all 20 of its regions. From Piedmont's Nebbiolo to Tuscany's Sangiovese, its finest wines pair structure and bright acidity with a strong sense of place.
In Italy's northwest, Piedmont is home to Nebbiolo, the grape behind the powerful, perfumed and long-lived reds of Barolo and Barbaresco. Fog-shrouded hills and calcareous soils define its greatest wines.
The 'King of Wines,' a powerful, tannic and perfumed Nebbiolo from Piedmont's Langhe hills, celebrated for tar-and-roses aromatics and extraordinary aging potential.
