"The 1989 Barolo Riserva reveals more freshness, clarity and delineation than the 1990, qualities that are apparent starting with the wine’s livelier color. Dried roses, violets, spices, cherries and plums are some of the nuances that are found in the layered, structured 1989 Barolo Riserva. There is more than enough intensity and depth in the fruit to balance the searing, powerful tannins, qualities that follow through to the potent close. The 1989 is classic, old-style Barolo. According to the back label, this bottle was decanted in November 2007, which is a helpful indication from the winery."

Italy grows more indigenous grape varieties than any other country and produces wine in all 20 of its regions. From Piedmont's Nebbiolo to Tuscany's Sangiovese, its finest wines pair structure and bright acidity with a strong sense of place.
In Italy's northwest, Piedmont is home to Nebbiolo, the grape behind the powerful, perfumed and long-lived reds of Barolo and Barbaresco. Fog-shrouded hills and calcareous soils define its greatest wines.
The 'King of Wines,' a powerful, tannic and perfumed Nebbiolo from Piedmont's Langhe hills, celebrated for tar-and-roses aromatics and extraordinary aging potential.
