"While Sanford's Chardonnays can be stunning, their Pinot Noirs have become increasingly exquisite and are now among the four or five best made American Pinot Noirs. The 1992 and 1991 Pinot Noir-Sanford & Benedict Vineyard-Barrel Select have not yet been released. They should prove to be exceptional Pinot Noirs of uncommon richness, complexity, and flavor authority. When they are released later this year or early in 1994, they will be must buys for Pinot Noir enthusiasts. As the scores attest, Sanford is one of California's most fashionable wineries . . . . they are exciting wines that can dazzle the palate."
