"The saturated opaque purple-colored 1996 Venge Family Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon may turn out to be one of the greatest wines of the vintage. The vintage's elevated tannin has been tamed. The nose offers formidable quantities of black fruits, smoky oak, licorice, and coffee scents. Dense, with superb purity, layers of extract, and a finish that lasts for 40+ seconds, this awesome Cabernet Sauvignon appears to be even weightier than the blockbuster 1995 and 1994 . . . . Nils Venge's limited production wines are labeled Venge Family Reserve. These special lots are made in quantities of less than 300 cases. They are aged for two years in small oak casks, 50% of which are new."
