"The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Laureate Napa Valley is a beauty and a sleeper of the vintage. There were 773 cases produced of this wine, which exhibits a nearly opaque, ruby/purple color and a beautiful nose of blackberry, cassis, graphite and subtle earthiness. It is full-bodied, fresh, beautifully textured and opulent, with no hard edges. The tannins and acidity are present, but beautifully integrated, as is any oak. Especially impressive are the rich mid-palate and long, pure, gorgeously refined and textured finish. This is a winner that can be drunk now, or cellared for at least another decade or more. This always seems to me to be an under-the-radar wine producer. The wines are consistently excellent. The White Rock Vineyards are at Napa’s southern end, adjacent to the Stags Leap AVA. Originally planted in 1870, they were revived by the current proprietors, the Vandendriessche family, in 1977. The vineyard is all hillside and, in certain vintages, the steepest segment of White Rock Vineyards is allocated for a limited production Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon."
