"Drouhinâs 2011 Chardonnay Arthur â which as usual incorporates both tank- and barrel-; malo- and non-malo-elevage â is delightfully scented with fresh lime, apple, and pineapple, which go on to inform a juicy and bright yet lees-enriched and subtly silken palate. âThere was a lot of malic acid,â notes Bell, âand malos here took forever. The first harvest for Chardonnay,â he adds, âwasnât until after the Pinot, so around the 28th or 29th of October.â Hints of chalk and iodine add interest to a sustained, slightly tart, and refreshing finish. This could well be more harmonious and complete in another year and ought to drink well for several."
