"This lovely, lovely wine is by no means ready to drink. The bouquet is still on the young side, with little of the tertiary components of sous bois and spice that will emerge with further bottle age. Today, notes of pure red and black cherries, licorice, woodsmoke, striking minerality, dried roses, fresh oregano and incipient notes of champignons combine on the stellar nose. On the palate the wine is full-bodied and really quite weighty for a 1985, with great depth and intensity of flavor, plenty of power, laser-like focus, and brilliant transparency coupled to a rock solid core of pure fruit. The finish is long, complex and shapely, with a flawless synthesis of fruit, acid and still some ripe tannin to drop. I would give this great bottle at least another ten years to fully mature. Great juice in the making."

Italy grows more indigenous grape varieties than any other country and produces wine in all 20 of its regions. From Piedmont's Nebbiolo to Tuscany's Sangiovese, its finest wines pair structure and bright acidity with a strong sense of place.
In Italy's northwest, Piedmont is home to Nebbiolo, the grape behind the powerful, perfumed and long-lived reds of Barolo and Barbaresco. Fog-shrouded hills and calcareous soils define its greatest wines.
The 'King of Wines,' a powerful, tannic and perfumed Nebbiolo from Piedmont's Langhe hills, celebrated for tar-and-roses aromatics and extraordinary aging potential.
