"From a 0.56 ha parcel of 36-year-old-vines located in Petits Maupertuis. Under the now capable direction of the young Régisseur Carel Voorhuis, this big old line producer of frankly mediocre wines has decided to get serious about quality. Blessed with superb holdings spread over 42 ha in 35 different crus spread from Puligny to Gevrey, this domaine has the wherewithal to challenge some of Burgundy's best if it really decides to do what's necessary. According to Voorhuis, the radically changed practices that were put in place beginning with the 2003 vintage were continued in 2005 and while the superior quality of the 2005 vintage is clearly in evidence, that alone does not explain the drastically improved quality. Stated differently, this is a domaine to continue watching as what Voorhuis has accomplished in such a short period of time is nothing short of remarkable . . . . This too displays a touch of wood spice that highlights the backward and still very tight and inexpressive nose that reveals only traces of black fruit and an intense earthiness that continue onto the hugely powerful, intense and full-bodied flavors that are muscled, taut and almost tense on the enormously long finish. This is old school burgundy with the hallmark finishing austerity fashioned in a 'take no prisoners' style that will please purists and the patient. Don't even think about opening this for at least a decade and it will require close to two to really be at its peak."

The world's most influential fine-wine producer and the benchmark for Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne and the Rhone. Its appellation (AOC) system codifies geography, grape and method, and its wines set the global standard for age-worthiness and terroir expression.
Produces the world's most revered Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from a mosaic of tiny, terroir-defined climats. Its hierarchy of village, Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards makes site the ultimate expression of quality.
2005 in Burgundy is a legendary vintage from a near-ideal, dry growing season; both reds and whites are concentrated, structured and superbly balanced, with dense tannins and exceptional long-term aging potential.
A thin-skinned, terroir-sensitive red producing perfumed, silky and elegant wines of red-berry fruit and earthy complexity. It reaches its apogee in Burgundy.
