"Bright ruby-red. Superripe franc aromas of black plum, brown sugar, iron, lead pencil and tobacco; distinct suggestion of surmaturite. Explosively fruity but there's much more than simply fruit going on here; conveys an almost painful intensity of flavor. A huge wine with no excess weight; juicy, sharply delineated, and classy. Rather like a ripe-year Cheval Blanc. Extremely long finish features big, ripe tannins that spread over the entire palate. Kongsgaard pays by the acre here and does severe crop-thinning, so even in the generous '97 growing season the yield from these vines was just 2.5 tons per acre."
