"The 1988 Roty Griotte is a top example of the vintage that is still a fair number of years away from peaking. The nose offers up scents of candied cherries, chocolate, grilled meats, pungent notes of rose petal, developing notes of forest floor and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is quite full-bodied and powerful, but also quite elegant for this era of Roty wines, with ripe tannins, fine focus, and impressive length and grip on the chewy and tangy finish. Clearly more complexity will come with more bottle age for the ’88 Roty Griotte- this may well be one of the top dozen wines of the vintage. An excellent wine which is still somewhat primary for its age."
