95 BC "Very big, dense wine with red fruits, dried spice/cracked black pepper and classy French oak flavours. Fleshy, warming wine with great length and profound complexity." 91 WA "The 2005 La Collina Syrah is still rather tight on the nose, blackberry, black olive and a touch of tar, good definition. The palate is full-bodied, robust tannins, fully ripe, succulent black fruits and a little dryness towards the finish laced with dried herbs and a dash of cracked pepper. Assertive now, but this should mellow with time and develop a nice savory edge . . ."

Syrah (Shiraz) produces dark, powerful reds with black fruit, pepper and smoked-meat notes. It yields elegant, perfumed wines in the northern Rhone and bold, rich styles in Australia.
