"The 2004 Bonnes-Mares seems deeper and more powerfully constructed in 2004 than it has in the recent past, and . . . this should prove to be one of the best Mugnier Bonnes Mares made under Monsieur Mugnierâs tenure . . . . with notes of plums, dark berries, espresso, venison, minerals, a bit less pepper than the above wines, and just a whisper of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, complex and quite impressive on the attack, with good, solid depth in the mid-palate, and a long complex and ripely tannic finish. This will be a good wine, and could prove to be truly stunning with a serious jump up in quality during the recovery phase."
