"Vine Hill Ranch is nestled between Harlan Estate and Dominus. Not bad for neighbors. The Phillips family has owned Vine Hill Ranch since 1959, but records show the land has been cultivated as far back as 1884. With their inaugural 2008 release, the Phillips family is making the move from grape growers to winemakers. The Vine Hill Ranch team includes vineyard manager Mike Wolf and winemaker Francoise Peschon. The three vintages I tasted were all super-impressive. This has to be one of the most exciting debuts in Napa Valley. The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon is a deep, powerful wine laced with dark plums, spices, licorice and tar, all of which come together gracefully in this powerful, intense Cabernet Sauvignon. A long, long finish adds to an impression of great balance and sheer pedigree."
