"Damien Coquelet is only twenty years of age, but has already learned well at his father, Georges Descombesâ side, if this superb 2007 Chiroubles is any indication of his skill set. This is made from eighty year-old vines, and it is a gorgeous example of the 2007 vintage, as it soars from the glass in a mĂŠlange of cherries, orange zest, woodsmoke, coffee, a great base of soil and a pungent topnote of roses. On the palate the wine is medium-full, deep and transparent, with a lovely, sappy core of pure fruit, really impressive ripeness for the 2007 vintage, tangy acids, beautiful focus and outstanding length and grip on the complex finish. Monsieur Coquelet is clearly a superstar in the making."
